General Operative

Atlas Site, Sheffield (site based)

Full-time / Permanent (37 hours per week, Monday – Friday)

Join a skilled manufacturing team where quality, teamwork and craftsmanship are at the heart of everything we do…

We are currently recruiting for a General Operative to join our busy shopfloor team at our Atlas site in Sheffield. Reporting to the Production Manager, this role plays a vital part in supporting day-to-day production activities and ensuring the smooth and efficient running of the shopfloor. This is a varied, hands-on position, ideal for someone who enjoys practical work and thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

As a General Operative, you will be expected to work across a range of designated production cells, with a primary focus on the Bench and Despatch area, while also supporting other areas as required. Your duties will include carrying out a wide variety of production-related tasks such as hand grinding, CNC machining support, wood turning, packing, testing and etching, surface grinding, pyrography, and general shopfloor assistance. You will follow management and cell leader instructions, work to set timescales, and ensure all tasks are completed in line with shopfloor SOPs and quality standards.

You will operate machinery in accordance with company policies and Health & Safety guidelines and take pride in maintaining a clean, safe, and organised work area. Flexibility is essential, as workloads and priorities can change, and you may be asked to undertake other reasonable tasks to support the wider team. Working efficiently as part of a team while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and productivity will be a key part of the role.

To be well suited to this position, you will have a good eye for detail and a steady hand for precision work. You should be comfortable working under pressure in a busy production environment with varied demands and be able to follow both verbal and written instructions accurately. Previous experience in a production or manufacturing environment is desirable but not essential, as training can be provided. A good level of education, an understanding of quality standards, and a strong awareness of Health & Safety are important.

We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic, reliable, and self-motivated, with a strong work ethic and a positive, can-do attitude. Good communication skills, excellent timekeeping, and a friendly, approachable manner are essential, along with the flexibility to adapt to changing work requirements.

This is a great opportunity to join an established manufacturing business and become part of a supportive team where quality, safety, and teamwork are highly valued.

If this sounds the kind of opportunity you’ve been looking for, then drop us an email along with your CV and salary expectations to careers@spearandjacksongroup.com telling us why this is the role for you.
